The M4 Kadıköy-Kartal line of the Istanbul metro is on the Asian side of the Bosphorous straits. The Kadıköy district, overlooking the Marmara Sea, is the ancient Calcedonia from the Byzantine Era.
CAF has been awarded a contract for the supply of 30 trains, totalling 144 carriages. Each train can transport 1,300 passengers. Extending line 4 will culminate in connecting Sabiha Gökçen, the new International Airport, 35 km from the city.
The vehicle’s design project was managed by the Integral Design & Development Studio of Barcelona, specialised in designing means for public transport, which explored original and innovative solution for the interiors: the rubber flooring design, developed with the Decors Idea technology, is inspired by the window grilles of Topkapi, the historical palace of Ottoman sultans.
